Catherine made many trading deals with Japan and Britain that benefited Russia. She instituted the Assignation Bank, which issued the first paper money (assignation rubles) of the government. Assignation rubles were created due to large government spending, that led to a shortage in silver. The creation of the system affected the way the economy worked. Catherine continued the ruin of the Orthodox religion, by taking money from the church for her own needs. She spent millions of rubles on the Hermitage collection and buildings.
